2025 FIM WOMEN'S MOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPION

There is a long-standing cliché in sport that it is harder to defend a title than it is to win one in the first place and after last year’s epic fight for the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship, defending champion Lotte Van Drunen – Yamaha must surely have hoped this saying would not ring true this season.

However, after pushing Van Drunen to the limit in 2024, Spain’s Daniela Guillen – GASGAS was back for another attempt and this time around six-time champion Kiara Fontanesi – GASGAS also remained in contention all season.

Van Drunen dominated the opening round in Italy with the Dutch racer taking a double win, whilst Fontanesi and Guillen fought back in Spain and the battle then raged through rounds in Germany, the Netherlands and Türkiye. Not once did Van Drunen lose the lead, but Fontanesi and Guillen ensured that the pressure was unrelenting.

The ultimate destination of the crown was still very much in doubt when the championship concluded at Darwin in Australia in late-September where a fighting fourth in the final moto of the year saw the talented teenager retain her title by just seven points from Guillen with Fontanesi a single point further adrift in third.
